Basketball Recap: Wayland-Cohocton Starts Season with Win at Home

Wayland-Cohocton gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Saturday. They walked away with a 49-38 victory over the Elba Lancers. The score was all tied up 22-22 at the break, but the Eagles were the better team in the second half.

Wayland-Cohocton got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Cole Hanggi out in front who shot 40% from the field on his way to 16 points in addition to eight boards and six assists. What's more, Hanggi also posted a 75% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alex Fedorchuk, who posted 12 points and seven steals.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wayland-Cohocton will square off against Avon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Elba, they will look to take advantage of their home court for the first time this season as they take on Alexander at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
