Softball Game Preview: Magnificat Blue Streaks vs. Lake Catholic Cougars

Magnificat is a perfect 3-0 against Lake Catholic since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Blue Streaks will square off against the Cougars at 11:00 a.m. Magnificat is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.

Magnificat came out on top against Hudson on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run third inning. The Blue Streaks took their match against the Explorers 10-6. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Blue Streaks considering their two-run performance the game before.

Ella Lopez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Addison Bednar was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Magnificat kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Lake Catholic's offense. They lost 8-0 to Ravenna on Thursday. The Cougars' defeat continues a trend for the squad, making it six in a row.

Magnificat's win ended an eight-game drought on the road and puts them at 9-16. As for Lake Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 3-13.

Lake Catholic's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Magnificat hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .350. It's a different story for Lake Catholic, though, as they've only averaged .197. Will they be able to contain Magnificat's hitters?

Magnificat took their victory against Lake Catholic when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 16-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Streaks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
