Baseball Recap: Wheeler Wins Going Away Against Jumpertown

Wheeler not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since February 24th. They were the clear victors by a 15-5 margin over the Jumpertown Cardinals. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Cardinals: they've now won five in a row.

Brady Cobb made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up four earned runs off three hits. Cobb was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Wheeler got a big performance out of Sam Johnson, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Wheeler is undefeated when Johnson posts two or more runs, but 4-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Kirkland Gambill, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Wheeler's record is now 7-8. As for Jumpertown, they dropped their record down to 4-11 with the loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. We've got a battle between Eagles coming up. Tupelo Christian Prep's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Wheeler's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Jumpertown, they will square off against Pine Grove at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
