Basketball Recap: Owen Schlager's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Trinity over Big Spring

After flying high against Steelton-Highspire last Friday, Trinity came back down to earth. The Trinity Shamrocks took a 64-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Big Spring Bulldogs on Thursday. The Shamrocks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 88-59.

Trinity's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Owen Schlager, who went 7 for 15 en route to 18 points and six rebounds. The match was Schlager's 17th in a row with at least 18 points. Another player making a difference was Andre Steele, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points and four steals.

Trinity's loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 13-1 and their overall record down to 16-5. As for Big Spring, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 14-5.

Trinity has already played their next contest, an 89-70 victory against Shamokin Area on the 8th. Big Spring has also already played their next game (against Shippensburg), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
