Baseball Game Preview: Wilmot Panthers vs. Burlington Demons

Wilmot hasn't had much luck against Burlington recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Panthers will venture away from home to challenge the Demons at 7:00 p.m. Burlington took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Wilmot, who comes in off a win.

Wilmot is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over Catholic Central on Saturday. The Panthers not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 8, 2024 (when they won 15-5).

Mason Lang looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Preston Jones was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024. Michael McCormick also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 14 runs the game before, Burlington was a bit more limited in their game on Thursday. They came up short against Union Grove, falling 11-1.

Burlington saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trey Kerkhoff, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Wilmot's victory bumped their record up to 8-11. As for Burlington, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-11.

Wilmot skirted past Burlington 9-8 when the teams last played two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
