Basketball Recap: Socorro Comes Up Short

Socorro was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 12th straight loss dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Manzano Monarchs, falling 74-31.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Manzano to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zaria Gomez, who went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 34 points and four steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Gomez has scored at least a third of Manzano's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Daira Solis, who went 6 for 8 en route to 13 points along with six boards and five steals.

Socorro's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Manzano, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-5 record this season.

Socorro has already played their next matchup, a 56-17 loss against St. Michael's on the 11th. As for Manzano, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 58-46 defeat against Albuquerque Academy on the 11th.
