Football Recap: Wellsville Tigers vs. Valley Christian Eagles
After flying high against Leetonia last Friday, Wellsville came back down to earth. The Wellsville Tigers were outmatched by the Valley Christian Eagles at home and fell 46-14. That makes it the first time this season the Tigers have let down their home crowd.
Although Wellsville took the loss, they still got scores from Clayten Kersey and Tyrell Watkins.
Wellsville's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged two passes before it was all said and done. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ethan Morris.
Valley Christian was led to victory by Ja'Sean A. Lindsey and Deion Miller. A. Lindsey rushed for 209 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.7 yards per carry, while Miller threw for 237 yards and three touchdowns. A. Lindsey's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 154 rushing yards dating back to last season.
Wellsville's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Valley Christian, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wellsville will square off against East Palestine at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Valley Christian, they will be playing at home against David Anderson at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Valley Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 31 points or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully David Anderson likes a good challenge.
