Preview: Southwestern Piasa Birds vs. Staunton Bulldogs
Southwestern and Staunton are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2019, but not for long. The Southwestern Piasa Birds will head out on the road to face off against the Staunton Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Southwestern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Southwestern was beaten by Wesclin 62-33. Southwestern was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-16.
Southwestern's defeat came about despite a quality game from Ian Brantley, who scored 17 points along with 5 rebounds. The match was Brantley's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Rocky Darr, who scored 4 points.
Meanwhile, Staunton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They enjoyed a cozy 52-36 victory over East Alton-Wood River.
Southwestern's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Staunton, the victory got them back to even at 4-4.
Southwestern beat Staunton 61-50 when the teams last played two weeks ago. Will Southwestern repeat their success, or does Staunton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
