Baseball Game Preview: Hoggard Vikings vs. Myers Park Mustangs

The Hoggard Vikings will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Myers Park Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Hoggard fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against West Bladen on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Knights by a score of 9-8. That's two games in a row now that the Vikings have lost by just one run.

Hoggard got a good showing from Jake Kinlaw, who tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Hoggard saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jake Jeffrey, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Myers Park had to kick off their season on the road on Monday, but they showed no ill effects. Their pitchers stepped up to hand East Mecklenburg a 9-0 shutout.

Davis Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Johnson was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

In other pitching news, Henry Bauer looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

Hoggard might still be hurting after the 13-3 loss they got from Myers Park in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Can Hoggard avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
