Soccer Game Preview: Mercy vs. Guilford

The Mercy Tigers will square off against the Guilford Grizzlies at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Neither squad made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Mercy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Amity Regional, who was ranked 11th at the time (Mercy was ranked seventh). The Tigers fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 2-1 on Saturday. The loss was Mercy's first of the season.

Meanwhile, Guilford kept a clean sheet against Hand on Monday. They had just enough and edged out the Tigers 1-0. The win continues a trend for Guilford in their matchups with Hand: they've now won three in a row.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mercy fell to 11-1-3. As for Guilford, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.

Everything went Mercy's way against Guilford in their previous meeting back in September, as Mercy made off with a 3-0 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Grizzlies have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
