Softball Recap: Mater Dei Comes Up Short

Mater Dei managed to slip by Belleville West the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Knights lost 10-0 to the Maroons on Wednesday. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Maroons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Mater Dei saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylie Rolves, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.

Mater Dei's loss dropped their record down to 10-9-1. As for Belleville West, they pushed their record up to 13-13 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Mater Dei and Belleville West should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Knights (ranked 192nd) will meet Father McGivney Catholic (ranked 438th) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Belleville West will challenge East St. Louis at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (216 vs. 561).
