Basketball Recap: Edison Comes Up Short

It was a Battle of the Birds when Edison challenged Hayfield on Friday. The Edison Eagles fell just short of the Hayfield Hawks by a score of 56-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered against the Hawks since February 25, 2023.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hayfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaylen Lemon, who on his way to 20 points and six rebounds. What's more, Lemon posted two assists, the most he's had since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Aaron Mcfarlane, who to rack up 11 points.

Edison's defeat dropped their record down to 19-8. As for Hayfield, they pushed their record up to 21-5 with the win, which was their 25th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Edison will square off against South County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hayfield, they will face off against Lake Braddock at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Hayfield's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 13 games.
