Preview: Aquinas Academy Crusaders vs. Leechburg Blue Devils
Aquinas Academy is 1-7 against Leechburg since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Aquinas Academy Crusaders will head out on the road to face off against the Leechburg Blue Devils at 7:30 p.m. Aquinas Academy will be strutting in after a win while Leechburg will be coming in after a loss.
Aquinas Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Tuesday, but they showed no ill effects. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 75-73 victory over Propel Andrew Street. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 53-21, which was the final score in Leechburg's tilt against Nazareth Prep on Saturday.
Despite their loss, Leechburg saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Tim Skeel, who scored 6 points, was perhaps the best of all.
Aquinas Academy's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Leechburg, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Aquinas Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Leechburg when the teams last played back in December of 2022, sneaking past 95-92. The rematch might be a little tougher for Aquinas Academy since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
