The Spanaway Lake Sentinels will head out on the road to take on the Franklin Pierce Cardinals at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Spanaway Lake, yet to win a game, are hoping to taste some of the success that has characterized Franklin Pierce's (thus far) undefeated season.
Spanaway Lake lost 17-1 to Rogers on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Franklin Pierce got themselves on the board against Steilacoom on Wednesday, but Steilacoom never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Sentinels with a sharp 18-0 victory. Considering the Cardinals have won three games by more than eight runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Leila Kennach made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Kennach was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with six RBI, two stolen bases, and three runs. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 3.2 RBI per game.
In other batting news, Kiley Sledge was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kallie Sullivan, who went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Franklin Pierce kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Franklin Pierce's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.0 runs over those games. As for Spanaway Lake, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-6.
Spanaway Lake suffered a grim 13-4 defeat to Franklin Pierce in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Sentinels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
