Basketball Recap: Carter Nelson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Parkersburg Catholic over Wirt County

Parkersburg Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They fell 66-58 to the Wirt County Tigers. The Crusaders lost against the Tigers in their previous head to head back in February of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 72-38 score last time.

Parkersburg Catholic's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carter Nelson, who went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Branson Lott, who posted nine points in addition to seven assists and six rebounds.

Wirt County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Easton Wyer led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 13 boards. Those 20 points gave Wyer a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tyler Smith, who went 9 for 12 on his way to 20 points.

Parkersburg Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Wirt County, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-7.

Parkersburg Catholic has already played their next matchup, a 70-50 loss against Ritchie County on the 28th. As for Wirt County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 57-40 defeat against Southern on the 28th.
