Preview: Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs vs. Athens Bulldogs
Bloom-Carroll has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the Athens Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bloom-Carroll's defense has only allowed 29.9 points per game this season, so Athens' offense will have their work cut out for Athens.
Bloom-Carroll has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matches by 26 points or more this season. They breezed by Berkshire at home to the tune of 56-19. Given Bloom-Carroll's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Berkshire is ranked 621st), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Emily Bratton was her usual excellent self, going 6 for 9 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points and 5 assists. Those 31 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Tessa Brooks, who scored six points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Athens unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They were the victim of a rough 62-37 defeat at the hands of Circleville. Athens has not had much luck with Circleville recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Bloom-Carroll's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Athens, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.
