Baseball Game Preview: South Fork Cubs vs. Hoopa Valley Warriors

For the second straight game, South Fork will face off against Hoopa Valley. The Cubs will host the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. South Fork is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

The home team had won the previous five meetings between South Fork and Hoopa Valley, and Hoopa Valley kept the tradition alive. The Cubs fell 9-6 to the Warriors on Tuesday.

For Hoopa Valley's part, Brandon Romero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Romero has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Hoopa Valley is 6-1 when Romero posts two or more runs, but 3-6 otherwise.

In other batting news, Tristan Billings and Carlos Anzora did most of the damage at the plate: Billings went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Anzora went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most runs Anzora has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Barret Myers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Hoopa Valley's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for South Fork, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.
