Softball Game Preview: Country Christian Cougars vs. Colton Vikings

The Country Christian Cougars will head out on the road to challenge the Colton Vikings at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Country Christian has three straight wins, Colton has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Country Christian gave up the first runs on Monday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Kennedy.

Kelsey Mulhern spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on three hits.

At the plate, Kee Kee Dahlgren was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Colton suffered their closest defeat since April 16, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of St. Paul by a score of 14-12.

Katelynn Kimsey was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. She is also on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Payton Herbison, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple.

Country Christian's win bumped their record up to 4-2-1. As for Colton, their loss dropped their record down to 3-8-1.

Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Country Christian has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .514. However, it's not like Colton struggles in that department as they've averaged .548. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
