Basketball Game Preview: Trinidad Miners vs. Raton Tigers

Trinidad is 6-1 against Raton since December of 2014 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Trinidad Miners will challenge the Raton Tigers at 6:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Trinidad was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 35-29 to Del Norte. The Miners haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.

Trinidad's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Danica Shipley, who posted 13 points and three steals, and Mikayla Hinchley, who scored eight points and seven boards. Those eight points gave Hinchley a new career-high. Lilly Gonzales also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Meanwhile, Raton can bid farewell to their four-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They walked away with a 36-25 victory over Walsenburg.

Raton's win bumped their record up to 3-9. As for Trinidad, their loss dropped their record down to 2-4.

Thursday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Trinidad hasn't given up the ball easily this season, having only averaged 5.8 turnovers per game. It's a different story for Raton, though, as they've been averaging 26.3 turnovers. Given Trinidad's sizable advantage in that area, Raton will need to find a way to close that gap.

Everything came up roses for Trinidad against Raton when the teams last played back in December of 2023, as the team secured a 54-15 victory. In that game, Trinidad amassed a halftime lead of 29-8, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
