4A/5A Southwest recap Sept. 26, 2012
Montrose took down Hinkley 60-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Angelo Youngren ran for 160 yards in the win.
Durango made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,278 from 8,370. The advance stemmed from a 35-28 victory over Farmington last week.
Vince Grasso was the most productive running back in 4A/5A Southwest this week. He ran for 172 yards on 20 carries as Fruita Monument lost to Green Mountain. Jacob Lynch also contributed to the rushing game with 76 yards on the ground.
Tyler Heinsma put up the best numbers through the air as Grand Junction beat Mountain Range. He finished with a total of nine completions for 74 yards and one touchdown. Heinsma's favorite target this week was Kaleb Johnson, who caught five passes for 41 yards.
Becoat was the best wideout in the league this week as the Warriors lost to the Rams. Becoat tallied four receptions for 56 yards. Josh Weller helped Grand Junction Central's passing attack out by catching one ball for nine yards.
Grand Junction Central's Mike Price and Weller have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Price has thrown for 523 yards this season, while Weller, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 19 catches for 424 yards. Youngren from the Indians leads the league in rushing with 817 yards.
A big matchup in 4A/5A Southwest this week will be when the Tigers take on the Wildcats. At the moment, Grand Junction is in first, while Fruita Monument is in fourth.
Montrose led the league in scoring this week after putting up 60 points on the Thunderbirds. Youngren in the win.
