Softball Game Preview: Mendon Hornets vs. Centreville Bulldogs

The Mendon Hornets will venture away from home to face off against the Centreville Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Mendon comes in on seven and Centreville on three.

Mendon came out on top against Bellevue on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fifth inning. The Hornets blew past the Broncos 15-1. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Ally Butler was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Gracie Schultz was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Elise Allen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles.

Mendon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, while Centreville put up plenty of runs on Monday, the same can't be said for Marcellus. The Bulldogs were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Wildcats. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for the Bulldogs this season.

Mendon pushed their record up to 11-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Centreville, their record is now 5-2.

Everything went Mendon's way against Centreville in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Mendon made off with a 12-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
