Basketball Recap: Rakin Showki and Barry Morrissette Secure Win for Sammamish

Sammamish hadn't done well against Mercer Island recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Sammamish RedHawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mercer Island Islanders, sneaking past 58-56. This was a revenge game for the RedHawks: when they faced off against the Islanders back in December of 2024, they had to take a 75-67 loss.

Leading Sammamish to victory were Barry Morrissette and Rakin Showki. Morrissette dropped a double-double on 26 points and 20 boards, while Showki dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten assists. Those 26 points gave Morrissette a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anthony Boddie, who posted nine points.

The victory made it two in a row for Sammamish and bumps their season record up to 10-7. As for Mercer Island, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sammamish will take on Redmond at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th. As for Mercer Island, they will challenge Ballard at 10:00 a.m. on Monday. Ballard will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Mercer Island surely won't give up without a fight.
