Baseball Game Preview: Sandia Matadors vs. Eldorado Golden Eagles

The Sandia Matadors will head out on the road to take on the Eldorado Golden Eagles at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Sandia will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

Sandia is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Capital with a sharp 26-8 win on Saturday. The result was nothing new for the Matadors, who have now won 16 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Eldorado played against Manzano on Saturday and won via forfeit.

For Eldorado's part, the team relied heavily on Cirillio Martinez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Martinez is becoming a predictor of the Golden Eagles' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't).

Eldorado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .588. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Sandia pushed their record up to 18-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Eldorado, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Sandia came up short against Eldorado in their previous meeting back in March, falling 5-0. Can the Matadors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
