Baseball Recap: Lucy Beckham Wins Going Away Against Berkeley

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Oceanside Collegiate Academy, Lucy Beckham was happy to have turned things around on Monday. They blew past the Berkeley Stags 9-2. Considering the Bengals have won three matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Lucy Beckham got a great performance from Hunter Doyle as he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Doyle is becoming a predictor of Lucy Beckham's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Max Kniesche was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Tommy Byrne was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

Lucy Beckham always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Lucy Beckham back to even at 4-4. As for Berkeley, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Lucy Beckham will have a chance to go back-to-back against Berkeley: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
