Basketball Recap: Queen Creek Takes a Loss

Queen Creek played a tough matchup on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Highland Hawks and fell 54-23. The Bulldogs were down 48-19 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the defeat, Queen Creek saw an underclassman step up: freshman Amaya Rodgers posted 15 points and three steals. That was a full 65.2% of Queen Creek's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessenia Attson, who put up six points and nine rebounds.

Even though they lost, Queen Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Highland found their leader in sophomore Bailey Williams, who went 7 for 14 en route to 20 points. That's the most points Williams has posted since back in December of 2024. Peyton Jacobsen was another key player, putting up 12 points and eight boards.

Queen Creek has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for Highland, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Queen Creek is taking a road trip to face off against Gilbert at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gilbert will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Queen Creek surely won't give up without a fight. As for Highland, they will host Higley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
