Softball Game Preview: Troy Trojans vs. Athens Wildcats

Troy and Athens are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Trojans will welcome the Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

Troy fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against North Penn-Liberty on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mountie by a score of 4-2. The Trojans' loss continues a trend for the squad, making it three in a row.

Erinn Knapp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Troy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddyson Muir, who went 1-for-3 with one double. Sydnee Bellows also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Athens' offense. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wyalusing Valley on Thursday. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Wildcats were not able to get on the board.

Athens' defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Troy, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.
