Football Recap: Athens Golden Eagles vs. Decatur Red Raiders        
        
		
             Athens won the last time they faced Decatur, and things went their way  on Friday too. The Athens Golden Eagles blew past the Decatur Red Raiders 49-20. Given the Golden Eagles' advantage  in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings  (they are ranked 51st, while the Red Raiders are ranked 219th), the result  wasn't entirely unexpected.
 Athens was led to victory by  Xavier Edwards and  Brogan Gross.  Edwards gained 92 total yards and two touchdowns, while  Gross threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns on perfect 8-for-8 passing. Athens also got a significant boost from  Kaydon Bledsoe, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 83 yards.
 Athens pushed their record up to 7-2 with the  win, which was their tenth straight  at home dating back to last season. As for Decatur,  they are  on  a  three-game losing streak  that has dropped them down to 2-8.
 Athens wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next  game,  a  45-23  victory against Russellville on the 1st. Decatur does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
