Baseball Game Preview: Alta Hawks vs. Spanish Fork Dons

The Alta Hawks will square off against the Spanish Fork Dons at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Alta is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Alta and Jordan meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Wednesday. The Hawks had just enough and edged out the Beetdiggers 5-4.

Alta's victory was truly a team effort as seven different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nash Williams, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Williams has posted since back in March.

Alta hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Spanish Fork waltzed into their match on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Everything went their way against the Falcons as they made off with a 7-1 win.

The team relied heavily on Jackie Sorenson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. Boston Duvall was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

Alta has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests. That somehow still isn't as good as their 19-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Spanish Fork, their win bumped their record up to 11-16.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Alta has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Spanish Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
