Basketball Recap: Duchesne Falls Despite Big Games from Chezney Farnsworth and Kira Grant

Duchesne lost against North Summit back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Duchesne Eagles opened the new year with a less-than-successful 42-34 loss to the North Summit Braves. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Utah basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while the Braves are ranked eighth).

Duchesne's loss came despite strong showings from Kira Grant and Chezney Farnsworth. Grant posted 14 points and four steals, while Farnsworth went 6 of 12 on her way to 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bailee Reese, who put up two points in addition to seven boards and three blocks.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Summit to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hartlynn Richins, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Richins has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 24 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Ellie Stephens, who had six points in addition to 19 boards and three steals.

Duchesne's defeat dropped their record down to 7-6. As for North Summit, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-1.

Duchesne will host Grand County at 5:30 p.m. on January 10th. As for North Summit, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 57-32 victory against South Summit on the 4th.
