Volleyball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Elise Trimble and Payton Watts Lead Lafayette to Victory

There's no place like home for Lafayette, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Scott County Cardinals on Wednesday, sneaking past 3-2. For the Generals, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 victory the Cardinals walked away with the last time they faced one another back in August of 2024.

Lafayette wouldn't go down easily and took Scott County into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-22, 17-25, 25-20, 15-10.

Leading Lafayette to victory were Payton Watts and Elise Trimble. Watts had 12 digs and one assist, while Trimble had nine digs, three aces, and one block. Trimble has been hot for a while, having also posted 15 or more assists the last 28 times she's played.

They weren't the only good servers: Lafayette was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 14 aces. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their ace total in three consecutive contests.

Lafayette's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-15. As for Scott County, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 18-15.

Coming up, Lafayette will venture away from home to take on Conner at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Scott County does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
