Baseball Game Preview: Leavitt Hornets vs. Lake Region Lakers

The Leavitt Hornets will venture away from home to take on the Lake Region Lakers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

Gray-New Gloucester hit Leavitt with a five-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Hornets came up short against the Patriots, falling 9-3.

Leavitt saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Morgan Folsom, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Folsom also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, Lake Region had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over the Knights. While the Lakers didn't have the best season last year (they finished 3-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Leavitt's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-3. As for Lake Region, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.

Leavitt beat Lake Region 7-3 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
