Meanwhile, Yorktown hadn't done well against Mt. Vernon recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Friday. The Tigers really took it to the Marauders for the full four quarters, racking up a 72-0 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Tigers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 39th, while the Marauders are ranked 208th).

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Yorktown proved: they limited Mt. Vernon to a paltry 1.7 yards per carry. The team can thank Nathan Spangler for the heroic effort on defense: he. Yorktown didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 11.7.
Yorktown's defense didn't let Mason Meyer, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Barnes, Austin Gregory, and Logan Taylor, who each picked up one sack apiece. Yorktown got some further help from Gregory: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made eight total tackles.
Yorktown's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Beech Grove, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Beech Grove has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 151.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Yorktown struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 168.3 rushing yards.
