Softball Game Preview: La Costa Canyon Mavericks vs. Brawley Wildcats

The La Costa Canyon Mavericks will take on the Brawley Wildcats in a tournament on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

La Costa Canyon had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let Olympian get on the board and left with a 4-0 win.

Avery Walanski was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Gracie Camacho, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Brawley earned a 9-6 victory over Granite Hills on Friday.

The team relied heavily on Caitlyn Padilla, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024.

La Costa Canyon skirted past Brawley 5-3 in their previous matchup back in May of 2015. The rematch might be a little tougher for La Costa Canyon since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
