Football Recap: East Union Urchins vs. Mooreville Troopers
East Union extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-2. They lost 35-14 to the Mooreville Troopers. If the Urchins were looking for revenge after losing 42-6 to the Troopers when the teams met back in September of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
East Union's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Will Swanson, who rushed for 115 yards and one TD. Heath Wilkinson was another key pass catcher, picking up 50 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
As for Mooreville, the win got them back to even at 1-1. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their three-point performance the matchup before.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Tatum Blankenship and Kason Mathis. Blankenship rushed for 154 yards and two scores on only nine carries while Mathis rushed for 148 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 8.7 yards per carry. Those 148 rushing yards gave Mathis a new career-high.
East Union has already played their next game, a 45-20 defeat against Booneville on the 12th. As for Mooreville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 24-14 victory against South Pontotoc on the 12th.
