The Broomfield Eagles will face off against the Monarch Coyotes at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Broomfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Broomfield is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Erie just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 4-3.
Maverick Scarpella was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Scarpella was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
In other pitching news, Broomfield got a good showing from Clayton Green, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Green has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Brendan Fritch was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Monarch was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of Frederick.
Monarch also got a good showing from Evan DiCarlo, who pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits.
At the plate, Charlie Pearce and Logan Uhlenhake stepped up to the plate in a big way. Pearce scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Uhlenhake scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That stolen base marked the first that Uhlenhake snagged this season.
Broomfield's defeat dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Monarch, their loss dropped their record down to 2-8.
Monarch's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Broomfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .451. It's a different story for Monarch, though, as they've only averaged .359. Will they be able to contain Broomfield's hitters?
Everything went Broomfield's way against Monarch in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Broomfield made off with a 17-7 win. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Coyotes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
