Recap: Elko Indians vs. Spring Creek Spartans
The Elko Indians suffered their closest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They fell just short of Spring Creek by a score of 31-29. Elko was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Spring Creek apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2023.
Several Indians players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ecko Atkins, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Atkins has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryleigh Cervantes, who scored six points along with four steals.
Even though they lost, Elko smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Spring Creek only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Leading Spring Creek to victory were Brianna Dimick and Ryan Youngblood. Dimick scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals, while Youngblood scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Dimick has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played.
Elko has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Spring Creek, they pushed their record up to 6-9 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elko will take on Churchill County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Spring Creek, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Lowry at 6:00 p.m.
