Recap: Pueblo South Colts vs. Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks
Even though the Cheyenne Mountain Red-Tailed Hawks scored an imposing 56 points on Saturday, the Pueblo South Colts still came out on top. Pueblo South walked away with a 66-56 victory over Cheyenne Mountain. Given Pueblo South's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 97th, while Cheyenne Mountain is ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Pueblo South's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Maurice Austin led the charge by scoring 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Austin is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Landen Frison was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.
Pueblo South has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. As for Cheyenne Mountain, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-16 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pueblo South will take on Pueblo Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pueblo Central and Pueblo South are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Cheyenne Mountain, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on January 31st. One thing working in Lutheran's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight games.
