The La Habra Highlanders will venture away from home to face off against the Pacifica Mariners at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with La Habra sitting on four straight victories and Pacifica on 14 (dating back to last season).
La Habra's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Segerstrom with a sharp 10-0 win. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Highlanders this season.
Samantha Cervantes tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.
At the plate, Mireya Gonzalez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Crystal Alatorre, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.
La Habra was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, everything went Pacifica's way against King on Saturday as Pacifica made off with a 10-2 victory.
Shay Kletke was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Kletke was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (two).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Micheala Meza, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4. Leyla Ayres was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
Pacifica's win was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs over those games. As for La Habra, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
