Football Recap: Picayune Drops Season-High Score on Ocean Springs

Picayune scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They received a blow as they fell 56-42 to the Ocean Springs Greyhounds. The Maroon Tide were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Greyhounds apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Picayune, adding 12 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of A'Darius Fortenberry, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Ocean Springs' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Chalmers Berglind led the charge by throwing for 326 yards and four TDs while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also rushing for 33 yards. What's more, Berglind racked up 157.9 passer rating, the most he's had since back in October of 2024. Ocean Springs also got a significant boost from Solomon Baggett, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 108 yards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Picayune fell to 3-1. As for Ocean Springs, their win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0.

Looking ahead, Picayune will head out to face off against Poplarville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 900 yards in their previous games. As for Ocean Springs, they will host Biloxi at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The match will give the Greyhounds their first taste of in-conference action this season.
