Basketball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends Halifax Academy's Winning Streak

After a string of four wins, Halifax Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They received a blow as they fell 50-34 to the Rocky Mount Academy Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Vikings can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 253rd, while the Eagles are ranked 50th).

Despite the defeat, Halifax Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Payton Odom dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards. Those 17 points set a new season-high mark for Odom. The team also got some help courtesy of Karson Ricks, who posted seven points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, Halifax Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in seven consecutive matches.

Taylor Carmichael continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Rocky Mount Academy, putting up 31 points and six boards. Carmichael continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Berkeley Miller, who scored eight points and six rebounds.

Halifax Academy's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8. As for Rocky Mount Academy, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 15-0.

Halifax Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Rocky Mount Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Faith Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Faith Christian is on a three-game streak of home wins, Rocky Mount Academy a 13-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season)-- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
