Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stratford). They put the hurt on the Springer Cardinals with a sharp 17-4 win on Monday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Bulldogs as it put an end to their six-game losing streak.
Jonah Myers looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Stratford got a massive performance out of Oliver Smithwick, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. What's more, Smithwick posted three RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jace Cunningham, who scored two runs and stole five bases while going 1-for-1.
Stratford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .840. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Stratford's win bumped their record up to 3-8. As for Springer, they are on a 23-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.
We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Stratford is set to square off against their familiar foe Konawa at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Springer will take on rival Elmore City-Pernell at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
