Basketball Game Preview: Elyria Catholic Panthers vs. Mapleton Mounties

Elyria Catholic is on a six-game streak of home wins, while Mapleton is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Panthers will host the Mounties at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Saturday, Elyria Catholic came up short against Holy Name and fell 49-42. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Panthers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 73rd, while the Green Wave are ranked 257th).

Despite the defeat, Elyria Catholic got top-tier performance from Claire Petrus, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Petrus has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Gabby Rodriguez, who posted ten points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Mapleton humbled Plymouth with a 54-14 victory. The Mounties have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 25 points or more this season.

Elyria Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 10-4. As for Mapleton, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
