Payton College Prep extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday, bumping their season record up to 8-10 in the process. They skirted past the Northside Mustangs 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Grizzlies have posted against the Mustangs since May 5, 2016.
Jacqueline Madda spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Athena Corrales was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Lyla Hamilton was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.
As for Northside, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat they have suffered against Payton College Prep since May 5, 2016.
On Northside's side, Jilliyn Yung put in work no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Yung was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Payton Phoxay was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ashley Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Coming up, Payton College Prep will venture away from home to square off against Chicago Hope Academy at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. Northside will be paying especially close attention to the Grizzlies' contest: after the Grizzlies face off against Fenwick, they'll take on Northside again at 4:30 p.m. on the 12th.
