Baseball Recap: Akron Takes Down Haxtun in a Playoff Battle

Akron had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 17-12 victory over the Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs on Friday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Rams, who until this match were averaging 3.62 runs allowed.

Tucker Stahn made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Clay Axtell was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Anderson Filla, who got on base in two of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

The win (which was Akron's third in a row) raised their record to 17-4. As for Haxtun, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 16-5 record.

As of now, neither Akron nor the Fightin' Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
