Basketball Recap: Steamboat Springs Sailors vs. Hayden Tigers
The Steamboat Springs Sailors had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Hayden by a score of 40-31 on Thursday. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 14 to 7 on the offensive boards, as Steamboat Springs did.
Steamboat Springs got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Tyler King out in front who scored 13 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points King has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sadie Hartman, who scored 12 points.
Despite the loss, Hayden saw an underclassman step up: Taryn Schlim scored 11 points along with five rebounds.
Steamboat Springs' victory bumped their record up to 5-12. As for Hayden, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-11.
Steamboat Springs will take on the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Delta knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully the Sailors like a good challenge. As for Hayden, they will head out on the road to take on the Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Vail Christian has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1.
