Foothill had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Pleasant Valley Vikings on Saturday. The Cougars are really starting to get used to good results now that the team has won 11 straight.
Elisea Wiegand was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Wiegand wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Malia Webb, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Foothill pushed their record up to 26-5-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Pleasant Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-8-1.
