Basketball Recap: Cross Trojans vs. Burke Bulldogs
The Cross Trojans came tearing into Tuesday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They snuck past Burke with a 68-63 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Cross' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caden Ramsey led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. Ramsey has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dominick Lampkin, who scored 20 points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Burke had strong showings from Terry Jenkins, who scored 22 points along with eight blocks, and Melachi Singleton, who scored 21 points along with three steals. Singleton continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.
Cross pushed their record up to 16-4 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for Burke, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cross' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Phoenix at 6:30 p.m. on February 6th. Palmetto Scholars Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Trojans are ranked 134th). As for Burke, they will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Military Magnet Academy has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 305 points over their last five contests.
