Baseball Game Preview: Augusta Beavers vs. Whitehall Norse

The Augusta Beavers will take on the Whitehall Norse at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Augusta has struggled recently with 13 losses in a row, while Whitehall will arrive with seven straight wins.

Augusta fell victim to Melrose-Mindoro and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They came up short against the Mustangs, falling 13-0.

Meanwhile, Whitehall won against Melrose-Mindoro on Friday with 12 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Saturday. The Norse beat Arcadia by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 12-3.

Riley Herman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Herman was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That stolen base was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Mason Pientok was excellent, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game. Deacon Steig was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Whitehall pushed their record up to 9-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Augusta, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-13.
