It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Willow Canyon had no problem doing just that on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Alhambra Lions 4-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-7 on April 14th.
KJ Kovaly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Cameron Davidson was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Willow Canyon's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 20-9. As for Alhambra, their loss dropped their record down to 18-8.
Coming up, Willow Canyon will challenge Centennial at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Coyotes have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. Alhambra does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
