Basketball Game Preview: Greene County Wildcats vs. Quitman Panthers

Greene County is 0-4 against Quitman since January of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Wildcats duke it out with the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are out to turn their luck around after having lost tight contests in their previous games.

Greene County is headed into the game having just suffered their closest loss since December 14, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Pass Christian by a score of 52-49.

Despite the defeat, Greene County had strong showings from Jase Matthews, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Cordarius Molten, who posted 14 points and five steals. Matthews is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last 17 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Javon Watts, who put up six points.

Even though they lost, Greene County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Quitman didn't have quite enough to beat Mendenhall on Thursday and fell 62-60.

Quitman's loss dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Greene County, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-12.
